I made it a bit smaller and scan-worthy. About a year or so ago at work, I was opening up the building and was on my way down the hall when I spotted a spider that appeared to be dead. To me, the spider was big enough, but I thought I'd throw it out in nature where it belongs. I picked up a scrap piece of paper and a styrofoam cup and started to scoop it into the cup. Then the spider, who was either sleeping or playing possum, started to move. I panicked, but quickly scooped him up, ran to the door and threw him outside. I hope he survived. Anyway, I marveled at the size of the spider, even though I know that there are much bigger ones out there.

Here's the idea that made me draw:
It has been a looooooooong time since I posted a photo on this here blog! I was in the mood to draw, but while trying to find a blank page in one of my sketch pads, I discovered some drawings of the past. They weren't from the distant past, they were pretty recent, or at least within the last four years. I was feeling a bit sad and discovering those drawings made me smile and laugh.
I haven't submitted for a long time, so I drew this for this week's topic. It is supposed to be a tall tower block at a time of day when the sky is dark but still light enough to see.

I created this sketch quickly but something about it appealed to me. I think it has something of a Jesus-like quality to it but when I titled it I must have been thinking differently because I called it "nutter".
Perhaps she is a traveller, a nomad with no fixed abode, living life one day at a time. Maybe she’s a Yoga teacher or an artist? Definitely something creative about her I can’t put my finger on…

FWhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02117308901968785109noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-26798391.post-31953110118536251562011-02-07T08:37:00.001+00:002011-02-07T08:37:28.484+00:00A Darker Side
I drew this last night (early hours of this morning). I wasn’t feeling very happy and it came out in the dark look of this rather androgynous character. It started out with an oval shaped face and I wanted feminine eyes but from there it kind of of felt more like a man, a boy with high cheekbones. So from that moment I was thinking male.

The black jumper and red background reveal my mood at the time. Rest of the background is very rough but I thought I’d leave it in as it sort of felt like it was fitting to have an unfinished background (and it was easier to leave it!).

FWhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02117308901968785109noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-26798391.post-74080378929437765722011-01-04T13:01:00.002+00:002011-01-04T13:01:41.943+00:00Portrait of my daughter while she readsMy daughter has had her head in a book today, here's a sketch I drew of her while she had her head down into a book.
In this episode Stan is at work, he's a junior I.T. guy but his mind isn't always on his job. You also meet two new characters in this episode: his boss and someone who Stan is about to develop a crush on. The first frame is below but you can read the whole page here.
It's going to be a comic full of vignettes which could hold up independently of each other, so don't expect a continuing storyline. The frame below is a taster but the full page can be read here, let me know what you think.
